Too few authors of colour of children’s books published in the UK say campaigners

Campaigners call for greater inclusivity in children's book publishing in Britain.
25th April 2021

The organization, ‘What’s Happening in Black British History? Books’, is set to outline plans to challenge the complacency of British publishers at the end of April. Catherine Johnson is joined by writers including Patrice Lawrence, whose Eight Pieces of Silva has been shortlisted for the Jhalak Prize, in calling for greater inclusivity. Fewer than 2% of all authors and/or illustrators of children’s books, published between 2007 and 2017 in the UK, were by British people of colour.
