Blood and Fire: Passion and Lyricism
Caribbean lyrical writing, spoken word and music combined on the stage in a collaborative new series between the British Library and WritersMosaic. The show was hosted by our director Colin Grant, author of I’m Black So You Don’t Have to Be.
The line up featured: the poet Salena Godden, one of the most compelling performers of poems live whether in schools or the Royal Albert Hall; the actor and soon-to-be novelist Phoebe McIntosh gave a preview from Dominoes which will be published in early 2024; the Jazz, Hip Hop band, CATO played from the new EP, The Wind That Was Blown; and the novelist Jacqueline Crooks, whose debut Fire Rush was shortlisted for the Women’s Prize for Fiction, was joined by the dancehall dancer Shelaine Prince and the dancehall DJ Mad-X.
