In a time of mass migration – Brian Chikwava

The far-right violence that has swept across the UK has left many migrants and their descendants feeling targeted and in danger. The fear and loathing is not a blip; it’s always been there, perhaps not so nakedly. In our guest edition, In a time of mass migration, Brian Chikwava recalls, ‘the migrant feels that she is a squatter in a world she does not own. The migrant story, which speaks to what is wrong with the world we already have, is used to make us feel afraid of the possibility of changing that world.’ Brian’s essay is read by the actor and director Burt Caesar.
