The Empress
SpeakySpokey: WritersMosaic Live Events
After the performance of Tanika Gupta’s play The Empress, an RSC production which transferred from the Swan Theatre in Stratford-upon-Avon to the Lyric Theatre, London, Tanika was joined by the writer Karla Williams. In a special WritersMosaic recording, they discussed the play which journeys from the brutal Tilbury docks to the grandeur of Queen Victoria’s Palace, illuminating the stories of the stoical and unregarded ayahs (nursemaids to English families) and their place in British Asian history. Karla began by asking her about the huge cast for the play.
