We Were There at the Southbank Centre

Events: WritersMosaic Live Events

We are all northern now! What would Britain look like if we turned it on its head and the north had all the money and attention rather than the soft, entitled south? Would Britain become as miserable as Morrissey or as soulful and joyful as Corinne Bailey Rae? Well the north is rising with northern writers, filmmakers and musicians headed south with WritersMosaic to show London the wealth of its talent and vibrancy, by taking over the Southbank Centre for We Were There, a night of music, film, poetry and prose. Colin Grant hosted an evening with Bradford-born Lanre Bakare discussing his groundbreaking social history, We Were There. They were joined by Leeds-based poet Malika Booker, co-founder of Malika’s Kitchen, performing some of her latest poems, the Liverpudlian filmmaker Bea Freeman and the stunning singer, Daudi Matsiko from Nottingham, playing from his latest album, The King of Misery.
