Michaela Coel wins Leading Actress at BAFTA tv awards

Winning the award for her drama I May Destroy You, Michaela Coel dedicated it to Ita O’Brien, intimacy director, for ‘making the space safe’ to make work about exploitation without being exploited. I May Destroy You also won the award for best mini-series. Her awards follow on from the recognition she received for her behind-the-scenes work at the British Academy Television Craft Awards in May where she won the Writer: Drama Award and, with co-director Sam Miller, Director: Fiction Award. Coel’s first book, Misfits: A Personal Manifesto, is published in September 2021.
